Episode 1: The Value of Data

Jeni Tennison, CEO of the Open Data Institute, and Dr. Ben Goldacre, bestselling author, clinician and Director of the Oxford Bennett Institute, sit down to talk about data.

In this special launch episode recorded on the publication day of the ODI’s joint-authored report The Value of Data, listen to Ben and Jeni delve into the complexities of how we value data. Their discussion uses OpenPrescribing’s work on Ghost Branded Generics and TFL’s open data policy to illustrate how the ‘value’ of data varies. It can depend on who is doing the valuing; whether the data is being valued based on economic, informational or societal variables and whether the valuer is considering both internal and external value.
